Limkokwing University students on their Global Campus semester in Limkokwing London recently got a lifetime opportunity to attend a live broadcast of the ‘Mel and Su’ chat show when they visited Independent Television (ITV) studios.

ITV (Independent Television) is the oldest commercial television broadcaster in the UK. Some of its more popular productions include ‘Downton Abbey’, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, ‘Brideshead Revisited’, ‘Broadchurch’, ‘Coronation Street’, ‘Gordon Ramsey’s Hell’s Kitchen’, and ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’. The ‘Mel and Sue’ chat show was added to the list in January this year, featuring famous English comedy double act Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins.

Students were treated to a behind the scene opportunity to interact and take photos with the show hosts before they joined the audience. One of the students, Alex Goh Wei Lok (studying Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Animation) was selected to ask a question to the show panel during live broadcasting.

For his part, Alex was required to do a rehearsal, so that when the time came he would have his question ready, and promptly ask it when cued to do so. Alex said that this was “a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I certainly made the most of this wonderful opportunity. “

The whole experience was particularly valuable to the Limkokwing University students as most of whom are studying Broadcast Media and Multimedia. The visit enabled them to observe at first-hand how a television studio operates under live conditions. As well as the show itself, the students also got first-hand observation at the set and lighting design, sound recording preparations, the rehearsals, cameras, direction and production techniques, and studio floor management.
