Limkokwing wins 28 international awards for online creativity

Limkokwing University yet again proved to be the best in creativity and technology innovation, when its creative team, the World Wide Web Domination, won 25 awards at the 19th Annual Communicator Awards and three awards at the 43rd Creativity International Awards.

The Communicator Awards is a leading international awards program recognizing brilliant and promising ideas in marketing and communications. Established 20 years ago, the Communicator Awards receives over 6,000 entries from companies and agencies of all sizes, from all over the world annually, making it one of the largest awards of its kind worldwide.

The Limkokwing University team won five prizes in the Award of Excellence (Gold) category. The Award of Excellence is given to contestants whose communication skills put them at the top of the field. In this category they won awards for:

  • Limkokwing Mobile Academy - Websites - Student
  • Limkokwing iPad App - Mobile Apps - News
  • Putrajaya Portal - Websites - Travel/Tourism
  • Putrajaya Portal - Websites - Visual Appeal

The team went on to scoop 20 awards in the Award of Distinction (Silver) category. This award is presented for projects that exceed industry standards in quality and achievement. In this category, Limkokwing University won awards for the following projects:

Of the overall wins, 12 awards were for Limkokwing University projects, which are the mobile apps, Mobile Academy, and Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing’s personal blog.

Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing’s blog discusses issues that deal with technology, creativity, innovation and transformation.

The Android and iPad apps are mobile versions of Limkokwing University’s Student Portal, where students can view their timetables, exam results and module outlines.

The Mobile Academy is a free e-learning portal that offers self-education on the go. It is compatible with a majority of web-enabled mobile devices and can be accessed from anywhere in the world.

Six awards were for the Putrajaya website, the Perbadanan Putrajaya Portal. The website is built to enhance Putrajaya’s appeal as an intelligent city for business and tourism.

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) portal won four awards. The portal was created in line with government initiatives to encourage creativity and innovation in technology.

The Lesotho High Commission KL website, which is also designed and maintained by Limkokwing’s creative team, won three awards.

The awards are judged by the International Academy of Visual Arts, an invitation-only group consisting of top professionals from prominent media, communications, advertising, creative and marketing firms. To determine Excellence and Distinction Winners, entries are judged based on a standard of excellence in marketing and communications. Judging is based purely on quality of expertise, and entries are scored on a 100 point scale by the judges.

Creativity International Awards

World Wide Web Domination also won three awards from the Creativity International Awards. Both Android and iPad apps received an Honorable Mention, while the Limkokwing Mobile Academy received a Gold Award.

The Creativity International Awards are judged by a panel of advertising and graphic design professionals who show dedication and skill in their respective fields. Judges score projects on a scale of 1-10, taking into consideration creativity, design, usability, theme/idea, execution and follow-through.
