Back for its fourth year in Malaysia, the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2013 is having a special two-day screening of this year’s best submissions at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology’s Cyberjaya campus on 29th and 30th October 2013. This marks the first time a Malaysian university plays host to the esteemed festival. The event will promote the university’s engagement with the global film industry and provide a unique educational platform for the students of its Faculty of Communication, Media and Broadcasting.

Each day will consist of two screening sessions where six films will be shown for each session. There are also industry workshops conducted by companies such as Sony and Cinema 4D on various topics such as script writing, video production, animation and industry innovations. Among the must watch for this year’s festival includes the Grand Prix winner ‘The Mass of Men’ by UK director Gabriel Gauchet and the Audience award winner, ‘She’ from Korean director Seong-Hyeok Moon.

“We would like to create and encourage young minds with good quality short films in the hope that they will learn and be inspired to create quality short films. That is the objective behind this event other than enjoying watching these short films of course,” says Bea Tanaka, one of the Producers of SSFFA in Malaysia.

The Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia was born 15 years ago in Harajuku Tokyo as a way to introduce the Japanese audience to the world of short films. Since then, the festival has taken seven national tours with over 140,000 audience members as well as international tours in Los Angeles, Singapore, Mexico and Malaysia. This festival is the only film festival in Japan to be recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as an official qualifier of short films for the Academy Awards nomination.
