Aspiring performers from Limkokwing University competed against each other for the Voice China audition on 13 May at the Limkokwing University campus.

The competition attracted 34 aspiring singers to compete and showcase their talents to a live audience and a panel of judges.

Voice of China is a singing competition based on a Chinese talent reality show. The series is part of the Voice franchise and it is based on the Voice Holland.

The Voice China series consisted of three phases; a blind audition, a battle phase and a live performance show. The show includes four judges/coaches who choose teams of contestants through the blind audition stage. These judges would then select contestants to join their team based on their performance.

“I heard that there are some talents among Limkokwing students,” said Yoko Chou, member of the judging panel. “I want to search for new talents and coach them.”

“At the same time, the competition focuses on improving stage experiences,” said Yoko. “Some people can sing very well but they will be nervous once on the stage.”

The competition enabled students to experience the entertainment industry first-hand.

For Degree in Fashion Design student Suxiaohuixiu from China, the Voice competition taught her the importance of taking opportunities.

“It is about having personal interest and keeping the passion to learn,” she said. “And try to get the chance when it comes.”

Yang Zhi Yu who is pursuing a Degree in Fashion Design, said that the event allowed him to gain more experience.

“This gives us more chances to learn more and expose ourselves to the world,” he added.

The exposure also helped to develop their character and abilities.

“Limkokwing University offered me a chance to build my confidence,” said China Student Ke Bu who is pursuing a Degree in Industrial Design. “This event also helps me improve my presentation skills.”

Limkokwing University encourages students to participate in various competitions, exhibitions and events. The University incorporates industry exposure into its learning approach enabling students to gain more experience during their studies.
