Limkokwing University bestowed YAM Tunku Kamariah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Binti Almarhum Baginda Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj with an Honorary Doctorate in Creative Leadership at the Cyberjaya Campus on 13 March 2018.

The award bestowed upon the Sultan of Johor’s elder sister was in recognition of Tunku Kamariah’s creative approach to challenges which enabled her to juggle both social and corporate responsibilities in addition to being a patron to various charity organisations.

“We are gathered here to celebrate and honour this inspiring individual.

She is a true Puteri of Johor, the highest title holder bestowed upon a princess in this country and the only person to hold two strategic titles in the world, as she is also Tengku Puan Laksamana.

“Coming from a family of great principled warriors and highly intelligent parents, she is both very knowledgeable and artistically inclined,” said Limkokwing University Vice President of Corporate Relations, Dato’ Fajura Juffa Mohd Mustafa Kamal, in her opening speech.

The ceremony then proceeded with Senior Vice President, Yang Mulia Dato’ Haji Raja Aznil Raja Hisham, reading the Honorary Doctorate citation.

“We are honoured to present this award to a lady of calibre and capability, who has been content to work in the service of the nation from behind the scenes.

“Despite being born into a life of privilege and luxury, Her Highness Tunku Kamariah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah has devoted her life to caring for the unfortunate and the needy, supporting the education of underprivileged postgraduate scholars as a trustee of the Iskandar Foundation as well as caring for sexually abused children as patron of an organisation called P.S. the Children,” said Dato’ Haji Raja Aznil.

To mark the special occasion, Limkokwing University presented Tunku Kamariah with a Faber Castell special edition set containing 500 colour pencils of various shades, as Her Majesty loves to draw in her spare time.

40 years of friendship with Tan Sri Limkokwing

Shortly after the award ceremony, Tunku Kamariah sat down for an interview, in which she shared her thoughts of, and expressed gratitude to, her dear friend and mentor, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr Limkokwing.

“I have known (Tan Sri Limkokwing) for nearly 40 years because my husband was in advertising with him.

“Three of my children studied here (Limkokwing University); I studied here too.

I did Interior Architecture,” Tunku Kamariah said, before further thanking Tan Sri Limkokwing for being the champion of the underprivileged by helping them receive quality education.

“Education is very important – you’re spreading information.

I want to thank him for making me into what I am. Thank you also, very much for supporting the underdogs or else the poor will not have an education. That is the most important.”
