Diploma in Batik Design
Faculty of Fashion & Lifestyle Creativity (R2/214/4/0005)(MQA/A6539)10/20
Batik is one of the Malaysian traditional crafts. It is a process of wax and dye penetration on fabric also known as the wax-resist method. The usage of different media such as dyestuff, fabric embellishment and the batik implementation create different textures and effects.
The course provides an intellectual, creative environment and encourages critical debate to help focus and contextualise the work, discovering and developing individual potential. Strong emphasis is placed on visual research, drawing for design and concept development. The curriculum covers the history and the development of batik, marketing, branding, artistic skills and creative ideas. The diploma itself offers a structured career path and with a shortage of batik designers at all levels, career prospects are excellent.
The course is a stimulating blend of theory and practice designed to produce graduates with the necessary skills to manage the processes involved in running a successful batik business. Career opportunities exist in buying and merchandising as well as the fashion industry. Students will be well-versed in batik composition, colour analysis, shape development, research and theoretical knowledge enabling them to create innovative batik products.

About the Industry
Fashion is a general term for a popular style or practice, especially in clothing, foot wear, or accessories. Fashion references to anything that is the current trend in look and dress up of a person. The prevailing style in behavior as well. The more technical term, costume, has become so linked in the public eye with the term "fashion" that the more general term "costume" has in popular use mostly been relegated to special senses like fancy dress or masquerade wear, while the term "fashion" means clothing generally, and the study of it.
