Packaging design has become extremely vital in recent years as companies are realising that great packaging equals increased sales. The packaging is often a consumer's first point of contact with a product, and a cool package may make someone try a new product line they’ve never even heard of. The packaging design is one of the most important elements in a successful product launch (or relaunch). No matter how good a product is, a poorly designed packaging can keep it from selling.

A designer might have to develop a packaging design artwork locally, but there are some essentials, universal values that prevail across the world. A contextual knowledge of image based communication systems and the changing cultural interpretations give you the knowledge and skills to excel in any part of the globe. Assessing and utilising technology are also carefully taught for production and post-production purposes. Therefore, this programme establishes familiarity with the major developments and emerging media technologies within the packaging design and related creative industries.

We insist on giving our students a head start – a good portfolio that should be a collection of pieces demonstrating their creativity, talent, technical skills, originality and artistic process, because potential employers may require a comprehensive portfolio.

There have been many relationships between various study skills and learning outcomes. Students are taught to implement effective learning behaviours to enhance cognitive and affective outcomes. The skills typically stressed are related to organisation and time management, setting goals, textbook study methods, memorising, using the library, essay writing and preparing for and taking examinations.

The programme provides a preparation for a degree level study and research in packaging design and related design subject areas. More so, it initiates effective and conscientious designers capable of reflective practice within today’s fast evolving visual society and commercial marketplace.

The results of studies that have found positive associations between achievement and the use of the particular strategies have been used by the lecturers as explained below:

  • Tutorials will provide academic oversight of the planning and content of the student’s individual programme of work. This will be particularly important at the formulation stage of the projects.

  • Grades, of course, do provide a measure of how much students have learned. Correlate the scores on tests that measure students’ use of these skills with some achievement outcomes, typically GPA.

  • Students should demonstrate the ability to purpose and create a body of photographic work that reveals originality of ideas, clarity of intentions and conceptual understanding of the photography.

  • A higher level of achievement is expected of students at each stage of the course. This is primarily determined by the increasing creative and intellectual demands of successive units of study as exemplified in practical and written work.
