Game Designer

Malaysia, Cyberjaya, Full Time

We are a global university targeting to be in 30 countries over the next few years. We have campuses in 8 countries, including one in London. While our core business is education we are much more than that. We are also strong in communications, especially in the use of new media. We seek talented and dedicated individuals who are passionate about what they do. Currently, we are looking for a creative and experienced Game Designer with a good grasp of game theory and mechanics. The ideal candidate must be proactive, organised, and flexible, with international work/study exposure strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Produce original and appealing game ideas, concepts and designs within genre
  • Produce rudimentary offline gameplay prototypes for staff and management
  • Conduct design reviews and presentations for the producer and development team
  • Produce and maintain character progression and gameplay scenarios
  • Produce and maintain gameplay criteria, levels of difficulty, win-lose scenarios etc.
  • Produce and maintain user interface (menus and controls) concepts and design
  • Maintain documentation of all game design processes through development
  • Conduct market research of the targeted genre and audience
  • Collaborate frequently with developers, artists and programmers in producing prototypes
  • Work directly with programmers, artist and animators to realize project design goals
  • Maintain diligence in iterating game design specifications to reflect project requirements
  • Maintain gameplay data and feedback from QA and game testers to iterate on design
  • Analyze live player feedback and data to continually improve existing game experience
  • Produce and maintain proper documentation for Quality Assurance (QA) Testing
  • Produce and maintain overall user experience (UX) design

  • Requirements

  • Minimum one-year experience as a game designer, or relevant education/background in interactive digital content and or games production as such
  • International exposure is strongly preferred (Work / Study)
  • Strong understanding of game mechanics (player motivation, risk/reward, choice, feedback, game flow, design complexity vs. user complexity, metagame design etc.)
  • Possesses good innovative, original and imaginative creative ability
  • Possesses good mathematical, problem-solving and logical-ability
  • Excellent command of English, in both verbal and written forms of communication
  • Familiar with capabilities and benefits of different hardware and software technologies
  • Familiar with and proficient in one or more project tracking platforms (Jita, GitLab etc.)
  • Familiar with agile working environments, and able to quickly adapt to changes
  • Possesses basic drawing and or 3D production/design skills
  • Possesses ability to take criticism well and constructively, and iterate where necessary
  • Possesses a strong passion for interactive digital content and games production
  • Ability to work alone and or within a larger development team
  • Familiarity with Unity3D Game Engine
  • Experience in designing and producing mobile games
  • Experience in, and or background in producing playable game prototypes
  • Familiarity with any 2D / 3D production software
  • Familiarity with any programming language (python, C++ etc.)
  • Ability to read and understand database and data structures
  • Willingness in experimenting with different themes and genres
  • Engaged and passionate about mobile games and game culture
