Mysteriously Creative

Written by Victoria Edwards

Jesse Lee is a woman of few words, but at the same time her mystery makes her an intriguing accomplished woman. Right after graduation she applied for a job with Maybank and got the job. Seven years later she is Senior Executive and in charge of running her department.

“Right now I’m handling the compliance area in my department which is comprised of 5 departments so I’m actually running the whole show.  My greatest achievement since coming to Maybank would be getting my department to be one of the top departments in terms of risk management and compliance activities.  Limkokwing taught me one thing that helped me succeed in this industry; always try to think outside the box.  When you come here to work especially in terms of strategic thinking and what not because people here, they are kind of conventional by nature, so you need creativity and fresh ideas to come out with new strategies which helps you stand out compared to other employees.”

Uniquely Global

I think Limkokwing is probably the only place in KL that you feel like you’re abroad because there are so many international students in one place.

When Jesse wanted to apply for university it was an odd time of year, but one college offered unique intake dates.  Of course an intake date could not be the only reason you pick a higher education institute, a few other things stood out to Jesse as well.

“At that time it was a collage, it was the only college that has three intakes in unusual months like in February. Limkokwing had a very large and interesting number of subjects compared to other colleges at the time and they were well known for their creativity.”

“I think Limkokwing is probably the only place in KL that you feel like you’re abroad because there are so many international students in one place. Which is a good thing because eventually when you come out into real life, working life, you meet a lot and different types of people from different places and it helps in a way with the interaction aspect. To put it briefly I would say Limkokwing is uniquely unorthodox.”

Unlock the creative vault

The banking world is not what it seems, facts and figures are only a small part of it. Jesse says if you unlock your creativity you will go far in this industry.

“If you want to come into this line of work be prepared because banking is not just about money and numbers, there is lots to learn, and you have to be interested to learn. And most of all use your creativity and be unique, because it really comes in handy when it comes to a big corporation like this.

When you achieve something you are proud of, that is purely from your own blood, sweat and hard work no matter what that thing is, that is success.”
