Limkokwing University held its annual cultural showcase Afrosphere in a packed hall on 28 April 2017. Afrosphere is aimed at sharing African heritage and diversity to Limkokwing University’s students from over 150 countries.
This year’s event featured poetry, dramatic skits, songs and dances from 10 African nations, namely Egypt, Mozambique, Swaziland, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Morocco, Zambia, Mozambique and Sudan, representing the five regions of Africa.
Students from various parts of the world acknowledged that Afrosphere was educational and provided insight into the diversity of the African continent in an interesting way.
Noureldin Salah Elmatari from Egypt studying Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Information and Communication Technology said, “I learnt a lot through Afrosphere. The University is doing a great job in hosting cultural events, because they promote understanding, tolerance and unity among students who are from diverse cultures.”
Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Industrial Design student Neha Rahman mentioned that she felt connected to Africa after attending the event.
“I highly support cultural events. Today I saw Asia and Africa come together to celebrate, and it’s amazing to see people from very different backgrounds mingle and learn about each other’s cultures,” she added.
Zimbabwean Hlengiwe Moyo acknowledged that Afrosphere was enlightening for her. “I have visited Limkokwing University a few times and I love the campus. The University is a great place to host events such as these because of the open-mindedness that’s on this campus.”
Every year Limkokwing University holds a series of cultural showcases that lead up to the Limkokwing International Cultural Festival, which brings together students from over 150 countries in one place to learn about their peers’ heritage.
