Students from the Politeknik Brunei were given the opportunity to explore future career opportunities at Limkokwing University on 8 March 2017.

Politeknik Brunei is the first Polytechnic institution in the Nation of Brunei that aims to equip students with sustainable skills through holistic and quality education in a supportive teaching and learning environment. It was established in 2012 to develop the country’s human resources by producing highly skilled and educated workforce.

Forty eight students from Politeknik Brunei received career counselling guidance to help them pursue their future careers while learning to realise their own creative potential.

They were counselled by the University’s experienced and highly trained educators. The educators were from the University’s Faculty of Multimedia Creativity, Faculty of Communication, Media & Broadcasting as well as the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology.

For Bruneian student Nurshazlin Samrah who is studying Diploma in ICT Digital Media, the creative industry is a promising career path.

“Originality is what helps drive the industry, and the world is getting more competitive,” she said. “Therefore, creativity will play a very important role in today’s careers.”

Students were also given the opportunity to see the benefits of multiculturalism for themselves.

“Since Limkokwing University is a multicultural environment, it will have diversity which will make exchanging ideas more stimulating,” said Diploma in ICT Digital Media student AK Mohammad Akmal Muazzam Bin PG Mohammad Adam Nor-Islam after meeting Limkokwing students from other countries.

“Different countries have different thoughts, so if we get exposed to different cultures, we get to combine these ideas into our own,” he said. “This can improve our designs to meet global standards.”

”This University can show students what is needed by the industry,” said Politeknik Brunei Senior Education Officer Haji Suhardi bin Haji Suhaimi during the career counselling session.

“We hope to be able to show students from Brunei an opportunity to experience a multicultural learning environment,” he also added.

Limkokwing University features multiculturalism and industry exposure to encourage creative development. Graduates gain the ability to communicate across different cultures while creating new ideas to succeed in a globalised environment.
