Limkokwing University Botswana came up top in the ‘Private University’ category at the annual Botswana Tertiary Education Fair (BTEF) which was held on the 23rd - 25th March at Ditshupo Hall in Gaborone.
BTEF is a platform that brings together education thirsty young minds with prospective institutions. It was first established by the Tertiary Education Council in 2010 with an aim of offering senior school leavers an informed choice on educational institutions available in the country.
The event was attended by Minister of Education and Skills Development, Unity Dow who talked about the necessity for tertiary institutions to produces industry ready graduates.
This year’s event was themed ‘Promoting Human Resource Development and Employability through Technical and Vocational Education Training’. The theme intended on promoting industry relevant education which equips students with skills and capabilities that address the industry demands. Industry relevance is a highly esteemed fundamental value of Limkokwing University, which offers a holistic, hands –on approach to education that sees students learning tricks and trades of the industry before they even graduate.
The event was attended by over 3, 000 students, most of which visited the exuberant Limkokwing stall. This year the University has gone with an ‘award theme’, showcasing over 200 awards that have been won from both industry and academia.
During the Fair, a panel of judges evaluated the higher education institutions based on various academic related aspects in different categories. Limkokwing University reclaimed its ‘best private University’ in Botswana title, which it has won consecutively for three years since 2011. The title was awarded in reference to the University’s practical approach to education and its firm believe in creativity and innovation as means of improving industries and economies.
Speaking during the awarding ceremony, one of the judging panel, Mr. Abel Modungwa, Acting CEO of Botswana Qualifications Authority said it was imperative that Africa look to alternate methods of education than the book centric current ones in order for the continent to be in par with other continents in development. He said with new age creative education and practical training, Botswana will be able to generate skilled and capable graduates, reducing the need to bring in foreign expertise.
Throughout the fair, the lively Limkokwing stall was flocked by many school leavers who showed much interest in the University’s holistic education, energetic environment, and emphasis on creativity and innovation.
