Limkokwing students received the Silver Award for Best Booth at the PAM Annual Architecture Students Works Exhibition 2016 (PAASWE ‘16) at 1Utama Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

PAM (Malaysian Institute of Architects) is the national professional institute representing architects in Malaysia. The institute aims to promote the advancement of architecture and the architectural profession while providing a framework for members to conduct business within the Code of Conduct and Scale of Fees.

The ‘ARCHInteraction’ exhibition was organised with the aim to encourage students pursuing LAM-accredited architectural programmes to showcase their talents. Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM) or The Board of Architects Malaysia is a statutory authority responsible for the enforcement of the Architects Act 1967.

Ten students from the Faculty of Architecture & the Built Environment competed with other tertiary institutions including Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Kuala Lumpur, University Sains Malaysia, Taylor’s College, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi MARA.

The exhibition’s theme was related to the World Architecture Day which showcases the best works from architectural students throughout Malaysia.

The exhibition enabled students to develop teamwork skills and a competitive spirit while learning through hands-on experience. Students also learned through observation and supervision by faculty members during the exhibition.

“The lecturers in Limkokwing University helped us by providing guidance and direction,” said Limkokwing University team leader Aaron Lim Jynn Xyang, taking up Diploma in Architecture. “We followed those directions and made it through.”

“We went through several changes before we were able to come up with the right one.”

The event further enabled students to familiarise themselves with industry practises while expressing their creative potential.

“The University has given us tremendous support to inspire us to design our work,” said Bachelor of Science (Architectural Studies) student Mohammed M.M. Hamada after receiving the PAM Academic Award for Excellence for his creativity.

“This award will help me in the industry by creating more visibility for me,” he added.

Limkokwing University encourages students to take part in exhibitions, competitions and events as part of the University’s industry-exposed learning approach. This fosters enriched understanding and networking opportunities between students and experienced professionals.
