Limkokwing’s Leonard Siaw wins art Grand Prize at ‘Make Your Mark in Melbourne 2017’

Another Malaysian artist makes a splash on the world stage!

Leonard Siaw Quan Cheng, 30, was over the moon when he was recently announced the Grand Prize Winner of the ‘Make Your Mark in Melbourne Street Art Competition 2017’, organised by Visit Victoria (VV) and Publika Shopping Gallery Kuala Lumpur.

As a reward, the proud Limkokwing Borneo alumnus has been granted the opportunity to participate in a cultural immersion experience in Melbourne, Australia.

When asked about his future plans, he said he hopes to travel the world and showcase his beloved artworks. “I feel happy with where I am now and I would love to travel around the globe leaving my art print. First stop: Melbourne!”

Earlier this March, aspiring young artists from around the nation submitted their entries to win a chance to collaborate with Juddy Roller Studios in Melbourne and its founder Shaun Hossack, contributing an artwork to regional Victoria’s Wall to Wall Festival Benalla 2018.

Presented by Roller, the event was also Victoria’s first annual regional street art festival headed by Hossack.

Among the internationally-renowned names involved in the festival include Rone, Adnate, Askew, Ears, Choq, Shawn Lu, Putos, Slicer, Rashe, Sirum, Kit Ritz, Guido Van Helton, Dvate, 23rd Key, and Deams. Leonard’s Siawtistic piece will soon be part of this artistic rendezvous in 2018.

Besides this latest achievement, Leonard has been busy with creating murals and artworks around his beloved hometown Kuching - in various shopping malls, kopitiams, studios, museums, cafeterias, coffee houses, and local boutique hotels.

On being a former Graphic Design student at Limkokwing Borneo, the jovial artist claimed: “It was a tough, but a very fun journey. We had to learn how to manage our time and with all the crazy deadlines in the industry today, I am definitely skilled for all that. All the lecturers have moulded me into who I am today. As the Chinese proverb says: ‘A teacher for a day, a father for life’. These are all my sifus!”

“Live your life to the fullest, because it’s always good to do what you’re passionate about. Everyone dies, but not everyone lives. Thank you Limkokwing Borneo. Without my Limkokwing days, this journey wouldn’t be possible and I wouldn’t be where I am now,” he added.
