Limkokwing International Cultural Festival brings over 160 cultures under one roof
Limkokwing University’s International Cultural Festival was a resounding success drawing a crowd of nearly 10 000 people from over 160 nations across the globe under one roof. On its seventh installment, this year’s festival was themed ‘Peace is Possible’ and it was held at the University’s flagship campus in Cyberjaya on 19 September 2019.
The event saw an outpour of notable dignitaries such as Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah binti Haji Mohamad Ali who is wife to the current Prime Minister of Malaysia; the Prince of Pahang, Tengku Arif Temenggong Pahang Tengku Fahd Mu’adzam Shah Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah; Mr. Maduma Gilbert Tsepane, Counselor-High Commissioner of Lesotho; Kingdom of Morocco’s Deputy Head of Mission to Malaysia, Omar Bouchiar and Ukraine’s Second Secretary for Consular Issues, Kateryna Shornikova to mention a few.
Held annually, the festival provides an unmatched platform for students to celebrate their rich cultural heritage through art, music and dance. They also get to showcase their talents in architectural design, communication, branding, ICT, event management, sound and music design, performing arts.
In his welcoming speech, Tengku Fahad commended Limkokwing University for creating an event that unites people from various nationalities. “The world is a vibrant and diverse place and Limkokwing is a great example. This year’s theme ‘Peace is possible’ is now more relevant than ever,” he said.
Meanwhile, Founder and President of Limkokwing University Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr. Limkokwing was bestowed with the Branding Award for Promoting World Cultural Diversity from The BrandLaureate
Mr. Maduma Tsepane, Counsellor at the High Commission of Lesotho expressed his excitement in seeing different cultures mingling in harmonious peace.
“Limkokwing is an example of what the world can achieve in terms of having diversity such harmony and peace,” Mr. Tsepane concluded.
Sharing her sentiments, Ukraine Embassy’s Second Secretary for Consular Issues Kateryna Shornikova said, “I am impressed with everything I saw in this festival. It was beyond expectations. It is a city-level, very professional and huge event.”
The night was packed with outstanding performances by popular artists and students who were from different countries such as: Korea, Palestine, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Russia, Mexico, China, Iran, Sudan, India, Mauritania, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Korea and much more. An alumnus of the University, Sona One who is now a creative hip-hop genius kept the audience at its feet with his latest songs.
In 2016, the Limkokwing International Cultural Festival was recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records for having the most number of country delegates participating in a cultural festival. A new record was set in 2018 with over 100 delegates attending the festival.
