Four Limkokwing students from the Faculty of Fashion and Lifestyle Creativity impressed the jury with their outstanding designs at the Honor Phantom Competition. The event was held at Sunway Pyramid Mall on 1 September 2019.
The competition saw students create products to compliment and accessorize the new Honor 20 mobile phone – a first of its kind phone with a 48 megapixel rear quad camera. Students had an option to select from a list of themes such as Bold and Funky, Futuristic, and Fantasy.
Additionally, the designs that won will be circulated to all Huawei outlets nationwide during the launch of Honor 2.
Grace Liang from studying BA (Hons) Fashion and Retailing expressed her delight at being one of the winners.
“I’m quite happy with my design because this is actually the first time I design something like this for a large competition. The lecturers were quite helpful and kept providing suggestions and options for us. I learned so much from this experience, such as how to use different materials, think outside the box, and much more,” said Grace.
Muhammad Azhar Bin Zainal who was paired with Nora Amelia Binti Ismail described how they came up with the inspiration of their design; “We combined our inspiration which was the beauty of feathers, mermaids and freedom, since we were inspired by the colours and the characteristics of the phone itself. The outcome was something fun and fashionable. I am really happy with the result because we put our heart into this project,” Azhar explained.
“I had to create an accessory that would complement the Honor 20lite phone. I designed and made a bag that could compliment the personality of the phone. It is chic, stylish and adventurous which suits the younger generation. My project was inspired by mermaids and how free they are. Thus ‘Freedom and Mermaid’ is the title of my theme,” added Nora.
Evelyn Wijaya centred her project around the asymmetrical tail of mermaids because they are known for their beautiful appearances and colourful scales which are similar to the Honor phantom colour palette.
“This inspired me to create a shell bag, with asymmetrical rhinestones to symbolize mermaid scales. I am really shocked and happy, there are hundred entries which also have a great design and potential to win this competition, and I am so grateful and thankful to Limkokwing University and Honor for the opportunity.”
