Colourful Showcase of Student-Owned Brands

Class PR12B from the Faculty of Communication, Media & Broadcasting held a vibrant event to showcase brands owned by Limkokwing Swaziland students during Africa month.

Held under the theme “Building a better Africa”, the event celebrated and encouraged entrepreneurship initiative shown by students who have developed clothing brands whilst pursuing their studies at the same time.

Brands that were showcased during the show are Trigger – a casual summer range for both men and women, and Teddz – urban wear summer and winter range for men and women.

Guest speakers at the event were Limkokwing Swaziland alumna Sabatini Mamba who has grown her passion for fashion designing into a thriving business since graduating with an Associate Degree in Creative Multimedia in 2014, and Faculty of Business Management & Globalization lecturer Andile Mkhonta who spoke to the audience about starting a business.

Sabatini shared how her passion for fashion design developed at a young age, and how she only plucked up the courage to pursue it seriously after she had graduated.

She advised students to pursue their passion and stated that when one has passion for something, even though success may not be immediate, eventually they will reach their goal.

Faculty of Business Management & Globalisation lecturer Andile Mkhonta told the students about how to start a business. Mkhonta has worked as an entrepreneurship trainer and coach, helping young people fine-tune their business ideas for success.

Mkhonta reiterated Sabatini’s assertion about passion saying, “Passion is the main driver in beginning entrepreneurship. A good business plane does not guarantee that a business will succeed, but it helps. The practical application of skills and the passion you have for what you are doing combined with following what’s in the business plan will, more likely than not, result in a successful business.”
