As the film and entertainment industry is experiencing exponential growth, so is the demand for skilled or highly-skilled and specialised talent. In efforts to bridge the gap between industry and academia, Malaysia’s Most Creative University launched its first ever Film Academy at its flagship campus in Cyberjaya on 28 February 2019.

Limkokwing Film Academy is an Integrated Creative Multimedia Arts Centre that offers technical training of end-to-end content development and production support that will produce skilled artisans ready to satisfy industry needs.

The academy offers opportunities for everyone who wants to hone their skills in the art of film especially Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) students who want to match their passion with professional programmes.

Speaking at the press conference, the University’s Senior Vice President Dato’ Raja Aznil explained that there were short and long term programmes. He said short term programmes have two options; two-day intensive workshops and a three-month programme, which are suitable for those who have been active in the film industry.

Meanwhile, the long-term programme takes two years in attending the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) certificate at Limkokwing Film Academy.

“We are offering this course to intensify the film industry, covering various aspects including behind the scenes. It can be in dance, writing, fashion, graphics, acting, music and also technical areas such as effects, animation and other.”

Through the Limkokwing Foundation, 100 scholarships will be offered to those who qualify. In addition, Dato’ Raja Aznil stated that the academy aims to produce 1,000 skilled students for the content and film industry within the year.

Giving his insight at the launch, the former Director-General of National Film Development Corporation (FINAS), Dato Kamil said, “Today film is a hybrid between the real screen and green screen technology and this is where the industry is going forward not only with skills but also technology such as special effect.”

“Limkokwing Film Academy certificates will not only produce top-notch producers and directors but also and top-notch production teams to build their skills in particular areas. These programs are very specialized with industry experts sharing their knowledge,” he said

Dato Kamil is currently the Director of Content Business Development at Limkokwing University.
