The global music industry is one of the largest and most varied commercial sectors that exist.

Digital technology has transformed the way music is created, produced, commercialized and consumed. The internet and smart-phone applications are now closely linked to the music trade. This digital boom has created new avenues of revenue for sound & music lyricists, vocalists, sound engineers, sound designers and music publishers among others has never been higher.

Sound & Music Design Academy

A range of programmes offered are tailored to meet the needs of students depending on their previous qualifications and experience. This vibrant & dynamic faculty is home to a number of award-winners who have gone on to make their mark on the national and global stage.

Students receive hands-on training using current and emerging technologies that are used by industry professionals. The presence of an on-campus radio station, international award-winning choir group and numerous live sound & music events means there are many opportunities for students to develop specialized skills in their chosen areas of interest.

Foundation

Sound & Music

This one year programme is an all-encompassing sound engineering introductory course that teaches students the fundamentals of harmony, melody and rhythm, and the basics of sound and audio engineering. It is crucial preparation for entry into Sound & Music Degree Programmes.

Entry Requirement

  • Pass SPM with 5 credits including Mathematics and English, Or
  • Any other equivalent qualifications recognized by the Malaysian Government

Sound & Music Technology

Delivered with a balance of theory and practical learning, the Diploma in Sound & Music technology equips graduates with hands on skills to thrive in the industry. The programme culminates in the students creating their own album during their final semester.

Professional Diploma in Sound and Music

Bachelor (Hons)

Recording Arts

The Bachelor (Hons) in Recording Arts programme produces graduates ready for a professional career in the music and recording industry. It is a specialized degree for those passionate in working behind-the-scenes in music production and publishing, artists and repertoire (A&R), or being the actual artist or talent themselves.

Entry Requirement

  • Pass STPM/A Levels with minimum 3 principals or CGPA 2.0; OR
  • Pass Foundation/ Pre-University/ Matriculation programme in related field and pass SPM/SPVM with 5 credits including Mathematics; OR
  • Pass diploma in related field with minimum CGPA 2.5. Candidates with CGPA below 2.4 and above 2.0, through internal evaluation will be carried out; OR
  • Any other equivalent qualifications recognized by the Malaysian Government

Salam Musik

Singer

Salam started his career in music after graduating in Sound & Music Design from Limkokwing University in 2007. In 2010 Salam received his first AIM 17 Award for Best Hip Hop Song alongside DJ Fuzz and Malique with the “Cerita Kedai Kopi” from the K.O. the Mixtape. He started his own record label “Salammusik” in 2010 and released “Alamak”, collaborating with one of Malaysia’s top rappers, Altimet. Salam Musik was also nominated for the AIM-19 for Best New Artist and Best New Album 2012.
