Limkokwing filmmaker’s work nominated for award at Silicon Valley African Film Festival
Born and raised in Ha Abia Maseru, Lebohang Motlomelo is a filmmaker based in Lesotho, whose films are receiving recognition across the globe.
Lebohang graduated from Limkokwing University Lesotho with a BA (Hons) in Broadcasting and Journalism and has since been actively pursuing his film career.
He was awarded a Certificate of Recognition from the California State Assembly for his latest project “The Lost Cause” which was recently selected for the Silicon Valley African Film Festival 2017 in San Jose, California.
It was nominated for an award in the short narrative category.
Produced in 2016, “The Lost Cause” is a story about a young man who finds himself trapped in a world full of pride, wickedness and evil after his brother left him to join the army following his father’s capture by the military.
Previously, the film won an award at the Lesotho Film Festival 2016 and participated in six film festivals internationally - namely the Dieciminuti Film Festival, Italy 2017; UK Screen One International Film Festival 2017; Screen Test Student Fest, USA 2017; Miami 4 Social Change Youth Film Festival, USA 2017; Silicon Valley African Film Festival,USA 2017; Afro-Chinese Arts and Folklore Festival Egypt 2017.

Lebohang expressed gratitude for being selected for the screening in California and said it would give him motivation to aim higher.
“I find it really amusing and shocking at the same time for a zero budget film to stand among some of the world’s top films,” he said.
Lebohang was also hosted in an interview with two renowned media practitioners; Jason Dunford Social Media Blog and the African Technology Foundation to share his journey with international filmmakers.
Formerly, Lebohang participated in a number of productions including ‘Walking In The Dark’ produced for the 48Hour Film Project in 2014, as a writer, director, producer and editor.
He was also the producer, cinematographer and editor of the acclaimed award winning short film ‘The Ghost’ at the Lesotho 4th Annual Film Festival 2014.
He co-produced and directed ‘Dire Straits’, the 2015 Lesotho Film Festival Official Selection, a short documentary film on state of politics and security crisis in Lesotho.
Lebohang credits Limkokwing University for instilling in him creative skills to think outside the box, and also for sponsoring him upon receiving his invite to the Silicon Valley African Film Festival 2017.
