Founder and President of Limkokwing University, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr. Lim Kok Wing has been admitted as a member of the World Federation of United Nations Friends on 25 January 2017.

The World Federation of United Nations Friends (WFUNF) is a global non-profit organisation with the core belief that international cooperation is essential to preserve peace and promote security, prosperity and justice throughout the world. Guided by its vision of a United Nations that is a powerful force in meeting common global challenges and opportunities, WFUNF works to strengthen and improve the United Nations.

One of the main objectives of the WFUNF is the dissemination of information to support and stimulate a global network of Friends of the United Nations to support the principles and programmes of the United Nations to assist in the formation and agenda towards global peace. WFUNF believes that major issues like environmental protection, the war on drugs, gender equality, food security and curbing population growth cannot be resolved at local or regional level, but require a global approach. It hopes to achieve this through the engagement of people who share a global mindset and support international cooperation.

Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing is renowned for his community and humanitarian efforts, and has received numerous accolades and awards from leaders worldwide. Tan Sri Lim was the man who assisted Nelson Mandela in South Africa’s first democratic presidential elections in 1994 and initiated campaigns that highlighted the plight of Muslim Palestinians and persecutions of Bosnians during the war-torn years.

Among the issues that Tan Sri Lim has championed are the removal of nuclear weapons, the abolition of apartheid, and the prevention of war. For Tan Sri Lim, education is the answer to bridge the knowledge gap, and to enable the youths of today to bring about the changes necessary for a better future. Tan Sri Lim believes that education is the most effective way to eradicate poverty quickly because it empowers people.

It was with this idea in mind that Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing founded his university, Limkokwing University. Tan Sri Lim has designed the University to be a bridge between the developed and developing world. Limkokwing University has established its presence on three continents and has worked together with the governments of various nations to establish special training centres and programmes to enable poor and deprived societies to have access to education and learning to build up their capabilities and economic lives.
