Limkokwing University hosted ‘Malaysia for Global Peace’ event in conjunction with Universal Peace Sanctuary Malaysia (UPSM) on 11 November 2019.

The event aimed to promote peace through individuals by observing a minute of silence at 11:11 am.

Officiated by the Global Peace Day General Secretary Dr. Ravee, the event marked an important milestone for Limkokwing as it was the first University to observe a minute of silence for global peace by students from over 160 countries.

Global Peace Day’s programme Director Suprriya Prasannan said Limkokwing is the right partner to collaborate with as it is a global University with youths from around the world.

“The Founder and President of the University Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Limkokwing is an exemplary Malaysian Peace Ambassador and educationist who has spear-headed many peace initiatives both locally and globally, as Peace is close to his heart,” said Ms. Suprriya Prasannan.

Dr. Ravee said that the progression of Global Peace Day the last 9 years has seen a new dimension this year with a committed partner, Limkokwing University - which he believes will have a major global impact by achieving global peace through individual peace.

Four students from Limkokwing University shared their thoughts, on the occasion of World Peace Day 2019 followed by a special video message from the Founder of Global Peace Day, Peace Ambassador, Gurumahan of Universal Peace Foundation India.

“We believe that our combined love for peace and peace consciousness during this 1 minute at this very special moment in time (11.11 a.m. / 11.11.19) will cause a shift in humanity’s desire and commitment for peace.  Until there are enough people devoted and committed to peace, peace will never be achieved on earth,” said Gurumahan.

Limkokwing University has always played a key role in promoting peace. For the past five decades, Limkokwing University’s Founder and President, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Limkokwing has quietly dedicated his life to lifting up others, regardless of race, religion and political ideology.

His philanthropic ideals underlie his global peace and education efforts – to date Limkokwing University has a presence in 14 countries with 12 campuses set up across Asia, Africa and Europe and four more   expected to open in Rwanda, South Africa, Namibia and Uganda by 2020.

Since inception in the 1990’s the University has been a haven for peace for thousands of young people from war torn countries such as Syria, Yemen, Palestine, Iraq, Bosnia to mention a few.

Some of the most impactful campaigns Tan Sri Limkokwing spearheaded are; The Global Humanitarian Appeal for Bosnia-Herze-govina -, an initiative to rally worldwide support for the rehabilitation of the war-ravaged country.

In 2003 he helped organise the Kuala Lumpur Global Peace Conference that brought the world’s peacemakers as well as the world media to congregate and draw a 9-point memorandum on achieving world peace.

He also received Palestine’s Distinguished World Citizen of Peace and Humanity Award from the former Ambassador of the State of Palestine Abdel Aziz Aboughosh for his efforts towards peace and appreciation for a special video he produced titled ‘Plight of the Palestinians – A people denied a homeland.”
