Students at Limkokwing were given the chance to see the work of professional photographer from Spain during an industry visit on 9 March 2017.

Ten students from the University’s Faculty of Communication, Media & Broadcasting, Faculty of Design Innovation and Faculty of Fashion & Lifestyle Creativity attended the photography exhibition which featured the works of Manu Mart at the Oriental Arts & Cultural Centre, Bedford Business Park, and Kuala Lumpur.

The photography exhibition “Who is Johnny Lim” was held in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Spain. The exhibition featured “Street Photography as a Documentary Photography Genre” that describes the travels of a Malaysian writer Tash Aw from the novel “The Harmony Silk Factory”.

The exhibition enabled students from the University to personally meet the professional photographer Manu Mart and learn from his experience. Students were able to interact with him during the questions and answers session.

“As a photographer, I learned a lot, especially about street photography,” said Colombian student Ricardo Pardo who is studying Bachelor of Creative Imaging in Digital Photography. “There are things that I could apply to my work.”

“I learned how photography can manipulate contrasts between colours to create an effect to the viewers,” he said after meeting Manu Mart. “We get to see the standards we need to achieve to meet the industry standards.”

“It is very interesting because it inspires students to take the effort to achieve their dreams,” added Bachelor of Creative Imaging in Digital Photography student Stalin Marimuthu from India. “This offers us with a good platform for global exposure.”

Limkokwing University frequently engages with experienced professionals in various fields. Students gain industry exposure and global networking opportunities from the University’s multicultural learning environment.
