Limkokwing Swaziland recently hosted its first ever photography competition to showcase students’ creative abilities.
Only registered Limkokwing Swaziland students were eligible to enter the competition.
Special guests included Owner and Creative Director of Hard Creative Photography, Owen Kunene; acclaimed local photojournalist, Sabelo Majola, from the Swazi Observer; and members of local print and television.
Given two weeks to capture photos portraying Swaziland’s culture, landscape, arts and artefacts, only ten contestants had a chance to present their photos to a panel of judges.
They were evaluated on perspective, clarity and their presentation skills.
Amazing works
Londza Matsebula, studying Television and Film Production, presented a photograph of the traditional Swazi necklace, ‘ligcebesha,’ made from beads.
He explained that he focused on showing the engaging patterns of the necklace, the texture of the beads and how the light bounces off them.
Khulekani Shongwe’s photo showed patterns on the Swazi traditional garment ‘Lihiya’ and demonstrated different styles the garment can be worn.
Other photographs showed elements such as water and its form when it bounces off hard surfaces such as concrete as well as natural elements such as trees being reflected on a puddle of water pooled on the ground during a rainy day.
After a challenging grading session the judges finally announced the top three winners of the competition, with prizes courtesy of local events company, Motiv Act Events.
First prize of E1000 and a tripod stand went to Londza Matsebula.
In second place, Mzwakhe Dlamini won E600 and a 16 gigabyte memory card.
Third place went to Mandisa Matsebula who won E400 and a 16 gigabyte flash drive.
