Limkokwing Lesotho hosted its student orientation week from 7 to 11 August 2017 at the Maseru campus.

Themed ‘Transform Your Future, Unleash Your Inner Creativity’ the orientation was designed to introduce the new students to Limkokwing University’s traditions and community through a series of events, programmes and lectures.

Present at the orientation were industry professionals and Limkokwing alumni such as Mr. Monaheng Mohale, Manager Tertiary from Ministry of Education and Training; Mr. Silas Monyatsi International Actor, Director and Writer; Mrs. Mamolemo Mokone Human Rights Activist; Mr. Ts’epang Majara, Chief Executive Officer of Mind Liberation Consultancy; Mr. Lejone Mpotjane, Professional Business Coach and Founder of Coach Jones Consultancy; Mr. Tonderai Muchenje, Director of Business Strategy & Business Development from Tshwane University of Technology.

During the week-long orientation students were grouped and briefed by their respective faculties to formally meet their lecturers, faculty managers as well as be familiarised with their academic schedules.
Industry professionals and alumni shared their journey and experiences to give new students insights on what it takes to make it in the industry.

On behalf of the Founder and President of Limkokwing Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr. Lim Kok Wing, Regional Director of Marketing and Recruitment Ms. Marcia Mangadi said, “My dear students and Lesotho’s next e-generation. The journey has begun. And it is going to be exciting. It is a journey that need never end. Every destination will lead you to new challenges. We will be with you for part of the journey. To help you unlock your talents, ignite your passion, fire your imagination.”

Limkokwing University Lesotho Registrar Mr. Moroka Hoohlo advised new students to take control of their lives and always ensure that they strive to reach the finish line. “As you embark on this journey, remember that we consider you as adults and will hold you responsible for all your actions,” he added.

A variety of local banks such as the Nedbank, Standard Lesotho Bank and First National Bank made presentations on educating future leaders of Lesotho about financial intelligence.

Organisations from health and security sectors such as the Lesotho Planned Parenthood Association, The Lesotho Mounted Police, The Blood Transfusion Services, Elizabeth Glaser Paediatric AIDS Foundation, Child and Gender Protection Unit and The Blue Cross educated new students about dealing with peer pressure, reporting crime, handling health issues and relationships.

Local tech companies such as Zeecom Computers and Computer Business Solutions gave a brief about their ever-ready services and merchandise whenever needed.

A new student Nthatisi Lebakeng expressed her gratitude towards the University’s management and staff for being given a warm welcome during the orientation

“I am very grateful for this opportunity of studying in the greatest University in the world. I applied three times before being admitted and I knew I had to be patient and persistent because that was the only way of ensuring that I become part of a global family whose goal is to work towards sharpening young minds like mine, into becoming entrepreneurs of the 21st century,” she concluded.

To wrap up the event, the University Ambassadors led some ice-breaking and team building activities which involved all present attendees of the orientation.
