The Limkokwing University concluded the first week of the Global Classroom Programme for students from the Brunei Kolej International Graduate School (KIGS) on 14 April 2017.
The two-week programme aims to provide students in higher education with a short but intense curriculum exposure in Malaysia that will enable them to compete for employment in internationally based organisations.
The programme, themed ‘Embrace Hybrid Technology to Boost Economy’, is structured to combine a range of educational, industry and cultural activities that give participants the opportunity to gain unique insights within the professional framework of Malaysia.
The first week of the programme enabled the students to gain a behind-the-scenes look at various Malaysia-based corporate organisations. These include branding and packaging industry, retail and e-tail businesses as well as administration practise.
Thirty three participants visited production centres that emphasise traditional crafting such as Selangor Pewter, Pusat Kraftangan Negara and Pasar Seni to learn how packaging and branding would provide a key advantage to a product. This enabled them to gain industry insights on crucial aspects of branding such as quality control, presentation and promotion.
Participants were given the chance to explore Malaysia’s retail practises at popular shopping malls such as Pavilion, KLCC and Publika to experience retail as consumers. In addition, they were provided with a tour around Malaysia’s administrative capital Putrajaya and Cyberjaya to learn the significance of responsible management and good governance.
“It was quite interesting as I get to see different people from different nation and see how they commute and work together,” said Bachelor in Information Technology student Muhd Hafizullah bin Dato Hj Mohd Samid. “I love the facilities and the people here are very helpful in showing us around.”
He also added that experience would help students like him to learn how different companies work in different cultures.
For Bachelor in Information Technology student Wan Murtadha Wan Alwi, the first week of the programme was both entertaining and amazing.
“This experience would enable us to develop more ideas for various major projects and boost our confidence in finding jobs based on our skills sets back in Brunei,” he said.
“As compared to our education in our home country, this is much more advanced,” added DK Noorul Afiza Pg Ishak who is studying Bachelor in Business Management.
She also noted that the exposure had helped to emphasise the importance of multiculturalism to enhance productivity and creativity.
“The first thing that I noticed when I came here is the diversity of the culture,” she said. “I learned that diversity helps with the togetherness of the people.”
Limkokwing University encourages industry exposure as part of the University’s multicultural learning programme. The exposure helps the participants to develop their confidence while increasing their job prospects in both local as well a global environment.
