Global Classroom students study the evolution of brands

10 June 2013

75 students of the London Global Classroom April/May 2013 programme visited the Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising at Notting Hill, London for a research tour on 26 April.

The objective of the tour was to give students insights into the evolution of consumer culture. The museum holds over 12,000 original items including packaging, posters, toys and games from Victorian times to the modern day.

The museum is set up in the form of a ‘time tunnel’ with its products arranged in chronological order. This enables visitors to see how a brand has evolved over time.

The museum also reflects the change in shopping habits, the impact of transportation, media, effects of two World Wars and the gradual emancipation of women.

After the research tour, students enjoyed the rest of the spring day at the nearby Portobello Road Market that’s been described as the world’s largest antiques market with over 1,000 dealers selling antiques and collectibles.
