Jacob Zuma to receive an Honorary Doctorate for Humanity from Limkokwing University
The President of South Africa, His Excellency Jacob Zuma is to receive an Honorary Doctorate for Humanity from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology on the 27th August 2013.
Earlier on this day, His Excellency will receive an award of Lifetime Campaigner for Global Peace recognition on behalf of H.E. Dr. Nelson Mandela whose exemplary efforts of relentlessly striving for peace have substantially improved the lives of many.
Jacob Zuma would be accompanied by International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Minister in the Presidency Collins Chabane, Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies, Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba, Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, Science and Technology Minister Derek Hanekom, and Energy Minister Ben Martins.
His Excellency Jacob Zuma is the seventh leader, from the African continent to receive an Honorary Doctorate from the University. In 2008 HE Dr. Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa accepted an Honorary Doctorate for Humanity. The same year the former President of Botswana HE Dr. Festus Mogae received an Honorary Doctorate for Humanity. In May 2011 the Rt. Hon. Dr Pakalitha Mosisili, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho received the Honorary Doctorate of Leadership.
In July 2012 Botswana’s Minister of Education and Skills Development the Hon. Dr. Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi received the Doctorate for Leadership in Human Capital Development and in October the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho, Rt. Hon. Motsoahae Thomas Thabane was honored with a Doctorate of Leadership.
November 2012 the Rt. Hon Dr. Raila Odinga, Prime Minister of Kenya was awarded the Honorary Doctorate of leadership in Societal Development. The recent Honorary Doctorate for Human Capital Development was conferred to King of Swaziland, King Mswati III.
Prime Minister of Malaysia YAB Dr Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak is among other recipients of the University’s Honorary Doctorates that include YABhg Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, YABhg Tun Dr Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi and YB Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili.

Jacob G. Zuma is South Africa’s third President. He joined politics at a young age of 17 and since then strived as a freedom fighter alongside Nelson Mandela to liberate his people from cruel practices of apartheid, he stands today among the most influential leaders in Africa.
He established the Jacob Zuma Foundation so he could extend assistance to other needs of poor communities because he understood the desperation of the poor and the destitute, prioritizing families that were financially reliant on disabled persons, as well as families crowded in hovels on the point of collapse.
In sports he believes the values of competency, discipline, teamwork and passion for excellence can be cultivated in the young therefore created the Msholozi Tournament with the aim of using sports as a vehicle to promote social cohesion and youth development. To date there are 52 teams which Jacob Zuma believes has kept youths away from drugs and crime.
For the passion, commitment and dedication with which he is engaged in building South Africa, Limkokwing University feels privileged and honoured to bestow upon His Excellency Jacob G. Zuma the Honorary Doctorate Degree in Humanity.
