Limkokwing China Association held its annual dinner last Friday 10 October in conjunction with the People's Republic of China national day.

The National Day of the People’s Republic of China is celebrated every year on October 1, commemorating Mao Zedong’s declaration of the founding of the People’s Republic of China in Tiananmen Square on the very date in 1949.

Held in Limkokwing University Plaza, it was a night full of entertaining performances featuring street dance, live beatbox, comedy skits, and amazing vocal performances.

The event started with a welcome speech by Peng Cheng, President of Limkokwing China Association, thanking the 350 pax crowd comprising of Limkokwing students and staff, sponsors’ representatives and invited guests.

Peng Cheng then proceeded to show a video speech by the Cultural Officer of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malaysia congratulating the association in holding the dinner and commending the students for participating in celebrating China’s 65th National Day.

The dinner then continued with the entertainment, starting with a comedy skit that had the audience in stitches. This was followed by the Limkokwing China dance crew, entertaining the crowd with their acrobatics street dance routine. Another performance that had the crowd on their feet is the ‘Bian Lian’ performance, the face changing illusion dance from Sichuan. Wearing a dark costume and donning vividly coloured masks, the dancer moved acrobatically to dramatic Chinese opera music while instantaneously changing the masks one after another.

Other notable performances include the duet by Yang Shan Neng and Zhang Li Dan performing Wu Ding (Rooftop), and a sweet rendition of Beyond’s hit song Xi Huan Ni (I love you) by emcee Yang Zhi Yu.

Interspersed throughout the performances are lucky draw sessions that include cash, vouchers, electrical appliances, and the main prize, a one way air ticket to China sponsored by XiaMen Airways.

Limkokwing China Association representative Foong See Kee said that the purpose of the dinner is to educate about China by showcasing the best of Chinese society, culture, and tradition. The dinner is also to promote the Limkokwing China Association to the public, especially to Chinese students at other universities. “It creates an opportunity for students to come together to celebrate and share their rich cultural heritages with everyone on campus”, she added.
