Tan Sri Limkokwing heads Commission on Private Sector Engagement in Commonwealth Education
Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr Limkokwing has been appointed by the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) to head the Commission on Private Sector Engagement in Commonwealth Education.
His appointment as Chairman of the Commission was announced at the Commonwealth Business Forum held in London from 16 – 18 April 2018, attended by Heads of Government, Ministers and global business leaders.
An integral part of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in the UK, the Forum was officially opened by British Prime Minister, Theresa May, and Microsoft founder Bill Gates was among the keynote speakers.
According to the CWEIC, the Commission on Private Sector Engagement in Commonwealth Education was established to discuss and promote best practices regarding the involvement of the private sector in education provision.
The Commission is also tasked with addressing misconceptions surrounding the involvement of the private sector in education and share best practices.
The CEO of CWEIC, Richard Burge, said even though private sector involvement in education has rapidly increased in recent years, there are still those who view this with suspicion.
“The reality however is that the private sector can contribute a wealth of pioneering approaches to education delivery.
CWEIC recognises that these practices can have a huge benefit for the young people of the Commonwealth, be it through sharing the financial burden of education for governments, or modernising outdated and obsolete methods, and we want to create a proper platform to ensure their promotion,” said Burge.
A series of high level seminars in several Commonwealth countries will be held by a distinguished panel, together with leaders in the education sector, to discuss case studies and explore new best practices.
Its main objective is to look for ways on how the private sector can improve and develop education delivery.
Visionary at the helm
Tan Sri Limkokwing’s appointment as Chairman of the Commission comes as no surprise, in recognition of his decades of experience in successfully transforming private tertiary education across the globe.
The Limkokwing University Founder and President was honoured with the Commonwealth Champions Award in November 2017 for his role in uniting youth from 54 countries through education.
In receiving the prestigious recognition, Tan Sri Limkowking became only the eighth recipient of the award in its history.
Limkokwing University is also officially recognized as the Commonwealth Youth Leadership University.
