Limkokwing University Botswana recently graduated over 900 bright young minds ready to transform Botswana industries and take the country’s economy to greater lengths.

The graduation ceremony was held on the 4th September at the University campus. In attendance was the Vice President of Botswana, His Excellency Dr Ponatshego H.K Kedikilwe, who received an Honorary Doctorate in Leadership. Also in attendance was international Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and industry leaders from around the country.

Among the graduates were international students from other African countries including South Africa, Zambia, Republic of Congo, Kenya, and Zimbabwe.

Speaking at the event, H.E Dr Kedikilwe said “the presence of private tertiary institutions in the country has not only reduced overdependence on the government, but has also significantly increased access to tertiary education for qualifying Senior Secondary School leavers.”

He commended Limkokwing University for taking a lead stand on transformative education that is continually changing Botswana’s economy.

“Limkokwing University of Creative Technology is by definition the beacon of creativity and innovation,” he said.

He also applauded Founder and President of Limkokwing University, Tan Sri Limkokwing for setting in motion the wheels of change in Botswana education.

“I wish to appreciate the immense efforts and commitment made by the Founding President, Tan Sri Limkokwing. He has established this magnificent institution in Botswana. This is an enormous contribution to the education of Botswana’s generation of creative and innovative leaders.”

During the ceremony, graduates who had displayed outstanding performance in various areas throughout their study period were awarded various awards of recognition.

Students thanked the University for the opportunities availed to them during their studies, and the possibilities a Limkokwing education has opened up for them.

“I was blessed to study in Limkokwing University where I enjoyed equality. As a student with disability, the Limkokwing community as a whole treated me with kindness and patience that gave me the strength to develop myself,” said Aobakwe Mosomane, a Special Needs student graduating with an Associate Degree in Merchandising & Retailing.

The students also commended Limkokwing University programmes such as the Limkokwing Entrepreneurship Acceleration Programme (LEAP) for giving them necessary skills for options besides getting a job after graduation.

“Through LEAP, the University has effectively moulded and shaped us into confident and skilled professionals. We now think beyond employability,” said Realeboga Linchwe, a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Entrepreneurship graduate.

Also during the event, H.E Dr Kedikilwe was conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Leadership for his unwavering commitment and service to Botswana. His work to his country includes decades of both public service and governance.

The attending crowd was kept entertained by the lively Limkokwing Choir, which earned especially loud cheers as they performed ‘You raised me up’ a song dedicated to the parents, for their devoted support and encouragement throughout the graduates’ education.
