Spreading the Easter cheer

26 April 2011, by Jacob Matabane

This Easter, with a gesture that warmed the hearts of Basotho everywhere despite the creeping winter chill, the university showed its solidarity to the Lesotho government and its people with a donation to the less privileged. At an intimate gathering at the office of the First Lady Mathato Mosisili that was graced by the Chief Education Officer of Tertiary Education and attended by several media houses, the M20, 000 cheque was presented to Her Excellency’s Office by Limkokwing University.

The First Lady Mathato Mosisili expressed her gratitude to the university, saying that the donation is the introduction to the link between her office and the university. She also applauded Limkokwing, saying that the university is indeed setting an excellent example to other institutions of higher learning. She rounded off her speech by acknowledging that the support has come at the right time and they are pleased that the university has contributed to the lives of the vulnerable children and their families.

Limkokwing Botswana’s Associate Director, Miss Marcia Mangadi indicated that the university has already done a few charity events where it has donated food to some charity homes and hope to do better this year because they will be working closely with the First Lady’s office to achieve that goal.

She also highlighted that pioneer of the university, Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing, has always been encouraging the university to engage in corporate social responsibility, adding that through the ‘Heal the world’ campaign, the university has given a platform for students in all campuses to conduct fundraising events for many humanitarian efforts which recently have included medical supplies for Palestinians suffering in Gaza as well as relief for all the victims of the recent earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides and floods around the world.

Limkokwing University of Creative Technology is, as the name suggests, in the business of creative innovation. The university is unshakeable in its commitment to produce graduates that effortlessly tread across artistic and entrepreneurial boundaries raising the capacity for human capital—one of the key drivers of economic growth and sustainability.
