Aaron Lee Whey Jeen studying Bachelor of Communication (Hons) in Digital Media has competed in over 50 dance competitions across Malaysia, Singapore and Japan.

An avid street dancer, Aaron Lee has received more than 10 titles including the Astro Battleground Champion. He is the elected president of the Limkokwing Dance Club and has been involved with several of the University’s activities. He has choreographed various events including Hungama, Creativity in Motion and the Limkokwing Cultural Festival.

Inspiring Others

“I hope to inspire others while inspiring them to change their lives,” he said.

At the same time, he himself finds inspiration from friends, family and faith which have helped him choreograph his performances.

He also expressed that everyone has to love what they are doing in order to help push themselves to their limits.

“If you do not have the passion and love for what you are doing, then stop doing it,” he said.

Overcoming Challenges

According to him, creativity is a major challenge in every dance competition. Different themes require different styles and choreography.

“You will have to create something that has never been done or seen before,” he said. “There are several things that you will need to take into consideration.”

“Some judges will buy into your concept while some will not. Some of them are more technical and some would look more at your creative concept.”

He advises students to make a lot of effort in their research, study and training.

“The biggest challenge is to create something out of nothing.”

Gaining Recognition

According to him, winning awards changes everything in a career.

“When you are somebody in this industry, it is easier to do a lot of stuff,” he said.

He explains that awards and recognition enables a person to stand out. At the same time, it highlights the person’s achievements and dedication to their work.

A Piece of Advice

The exposure he gets enables him to develop his work ethics and discipline.

“Now I am able to organise my own event and coordinate my entire performance.”

He explains that courage is an important factor in any venture and believes that we all have to take the first step to seize opportunities.

“You cannot wait for another day,” he said. “If you keep waiting for that opportunity, that dream will never come true.”
