FELDA students at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology London Campus enthusiastically welcomed Australian photographers Callena Brenchley and Sidney Coombes as they discussed their artistic practices and presented a variety of stunning images from their latest bodies of work.

The dynamic pair recently graduated from the Queensland College of Art in Brisbane, Australia, with Bachelors in Photography - Callena majoring in Creative Advertising and Sidney majoring in Photographic Art Practice. Just months after graduating, the adventurous duo embarked on a trip of a lifetime: seven months travelling through Asia, Europe and United States of America. Throughout their trip, they have collaborated with various models to create breathtaking images that capture the heart of environments and cultures that they have observed.

The duo presented and discussed recent and past work to Limkokwing’s Felda students, with much surprise to some, as most had already knew of the photographers and their work. The students listened with enthusiasm and excitement as they explained their personal approaches to finalising a body of work. Both photographers discussed the benefits of travelling, expressing that their eyes, hearts and minds have completely opened and transformed through the experiences and people they have encountered.

Coombes explained that photography for him is “a journey that has no destination” whilst discussing the early work which led him to become the visual artist that he is now. Brenchley presented the students with some of the portraits she has taken throughout their trip so far, explaining, “You need to have the confidence to approach models and make the most of the opportunities you have”.

Both Coombes and Brenchley reminded the students that the key to success is to keep on trying no matter how many times they fail and to have confidence in themselves and their work.

Students were very impressed and motivated by Coombes and Brenchley’s passion and enthusiasm for photography. This is evident when they asked many questions about the techniques the duo use and how to recreate specific images. One student was excited to see that Brenchley had perfected a technique that he had previously attempted and was eager to learn about the specific process used to create the images he desired.

These adventurous Australian photographers’ dedication to the art was the inspiration that the students needed to realise that they too have the potential to create their own success.
