Getting the chance to step foot in a new country brings the opportunity to learn and experience new things and cultures. See how a Global Classroom semester has changed our students for the better!

For Esther Loh, Shalini A/P Bala Sundaram, Mohd Nur Hilman, and Jumaitul Laily, the Global Classroom experience was a chance to see the world. They went to London, England, and spent a month there taking in the culture, art, and life of a completely foreign place. Not only were they inspired by the architecture, but they also learned the importance of discipline in their daily lives, seeing the orderly conduct of their peers in the little details of everyday life.

“Culture in London will really make us explore so that we know better things which we can apply when we come back in Malaysia. So that was really why I went to London,” explained Shalini, a Creative Multimedia student. “Exposure was the main thing which I brought back from London because whenever I walked on the streets, I looked at their designs, I look at the people, the reactions, the dressing, and that is the main thing which I brought back from London. The exposure. I mean that was an unforgettable experience. But when I think of London, I think of Limkokwing London, the people there were really efficient and I would really say my Harry Potter tour in London was really, really amazing. That was awesome. I just loved it. That was the main reason why I went to London; I wanted to see the studio. That was, when I saw the outline in this course outline, oh my God that was why I went to London in the first place!”

“When I think of London, I think of Limkokwing London, the people there were really efficient and I would really say my Harry Potter tour in London was really, really amazing.”

The Limkokwing experience in London also seems to have made quite the impression on our students. Shalini’s praise for the staff was echoed by her course mate Nur Hilman, of Indonesia. “The most memorable thing will be the service that we got from Limkokwing. It was so different, they treat us like a King and Queen. They briefed us on what you have to do and what you need to take care of, what places to go at what time to avoid things like, it will be jammed, there will be a lot of people. And of course we had opportunity to went inside the Queen’s Palace which I think is rare. We had access to go inside the Buckingham Palace, and of course we went to the Stonehenge, a very historical place where it’s wonderful and mysterious. London is my playground for that month. I can do whatever I want.”

Of course, life in London was not all fun and games. In this uber-civilized town, discipline is an unspoken rule among the native people that our students had to observe and learn for themselves. “Well is quite a little bit different. They are more disciplined there compare to ours. They have a lot of common sense: more than us, like you need to be on the right side if you want to stand there, if you want to walk faster you go on the left side. No one is telling anybody to do things they know what to do. So they are very discipline which is very new to me,” Nur Hilman observes of his Western counterparts. Shalini concurs, adding “Well, in London it’s completely disciplined. That’s what you can find there. As you know each and everything will be really disciplined even from a thank you to a sorry, everything they do is in a disciplined way. This will really make things really move forward faster, easier. So it really dawned on me, that there was really a different culture in Malaysia and in London. You know, in the morning in escalator, the people will stand on the right and left. It will really makes things move forward easier. Trains there come really fast, you know. It can just make our day faster compared to get it slower.”

“Find new experience for yourselves. To encourage you to be a better person.”

Global Classroom represents a microcosm of the Limkokwing experience, a truly international look at the world today and something all students should definitely experience at least once in a lifetime. The chance to see past the way one was raised can only be found in a place that’s completely new, and these students grabbed that chance and ran with it. As for you, dear student? Well, don’t take it from us, but from your seniors. To hear Esther put it, “It was very fun experience, if you ask me. For them to be able to explore the world they never knew.”. But perhaps Jumaitul says it best- “Because in other countries, they have other rules, other experiences, so you should go there. Find new experience for yourselves. To encourage you to be a better person.”
