Students were given a valuable chance to network with industry players, professionals and celebrities at the two-day Women Fest Malaysia event held at MATRADE Exhibition Centre (MECC) in Kuala Lumpur on 28 and 29 October 2017.

WomenFest Malaysia is a platform for business networking for women entrepreneurs to create awareness among local designers and retailers.

As the education partner of the event, Limkokwing University provided students with the opportunity to develop their networking skills with industry players. Students gained insights into the fashion industry as well as advice from experienced professionals.

For Kenyan student Anagha Nair who is pursuing a Bachelor in Fashion Design, the event provided her with the chance to develop her interpersonal skills.

“Fashion design is all about making connections,” she explained. “I got to meet a lot of people in the industry and they gave me valuable insights,” she added.

During the event, Limkokwing University alumna Sazzy Falak took the opportunity to share her experience with students.

“Branding is important for your company and for your organisation to have it stand out,” she said.  “Branding does not stop at the logo, it goes with your theme, staff members and everything else.”

Sazzy said the industry has many challenges but the real challenge is within themselves.

“You are learning more about yourself and your ability to overcome those fears or the mistakes that you make,” she said. “Challenges will always be there but the important part is how you react to it.”

“I think for students who have yet to embark on a career, just remind yourself that you are enough but at the same time you have let no one bring you down,” Sazzy added.

The event saw over 100 brands under one roof, with beauty and fashion tutorials, workshops and sharing sessions by industry players.
