Heal the World charity bazaar opens to a flurry of sights, sounds and tastes

9 October 2010

Hundreds of students turned up to show love to the thousands in need in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan regions of Pakistan at a bazaar organized by students for the University’s Heal the World Foundation last week. Donations will go towards medical aid for waterborne diseases rampant from the destruction of infrastructure.

Limkokwing’s latest drive has seen the student community galvanize in support of the flood turmoil, breaking records as the worst natural disaster of its kind in history, striking mercilessly during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Wafts of smoky perfume flowed through the Wings Plaza as stalls selling saris, Pakistani jewellery, beaded shawls, henna and other souvenirs drew friends, while home cooked briyanis, kebabs and fresh deserts soothed stomachs.

Pakistani Architecture student Navaal Irfan, a member of the organizing committee says, “I’m so proud of our peers for being sensitive enough to feel for our brothers and sisters! It’s very emotional for me to be here and feel so close to something that’s happening in my home country, so far away.”

The Foundation is also collecting art inspired by the theme of hope, one such piece designed by Venezuelan Design student Sebastian Guzman, called ‘Man in need’.

Sebastian says of his involvement in the Heal the World Campaign, “I
really enjoy painting facial expressions and when I was given the chance to
show my support for the people of Pakistan I jumped at the opportunity.”

“My painting revolves around hope and the challenge we face everyday
in making the world a better place for mankind any way we can. I feel
very privileged to be able to be a part of this worthwhile campaign.”

Songs performed this Thursday will be expressed through all genres and
languages, reflecting the common emotions felt throughout the Limkokwing
network, featuring students from countries such as Belgium, China, Mauritius
and Lithuania.

“Expect a lot of energy,” says resident emcee and charmer Ehsan Kabir from
Bangladesh.

“You’ll see the best of us come through our sets; we want to see people
move with us through the music. Hopefully, we can send the footage to

Pakistan and they can see how strongly people around the world feel about
their struggle. Through the most trying times, you will find your truest
friends. In us, they must know they have friends.”

Students at Limkokwing Universities all over the world are collecting actively now. Please join the movement by contacting your nearest centre.
