Deputy Prime Minister of Lesotho, Mothetjoa Metsing, paid an official visit to Limkokwing University recently. This visit happened during a five day courtesy call to Malaysia, to discuss bilateral co-operations. During his visit to the country, the Deputy Prime Minister attended a launch for a book by Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing, held in Putrajaya. The book, called ‘The Future is Coming - Transform’ now is a compilation of all Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing’s speeches, articles, and blogs addressing creativity and innovation. The Deputy Prime Minister also dedicated an afternoon to visit the leading university in innovation and meet with its president, Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing.

The Deputy Prime Minister and his convoy of delegates from Lesotho were met with a jubilant applause from Limkokwing University staff and students. On the presence of the university in his home country, Metsing said when the university was opened in Lesotho, it exposed students to a global environment, and when they graduate, ‘it gives them the opportunity of being globally competitive.’

The convoy was first shown around the university’s outstanding facilities. They went to various places around the university, including the Creativity Library, which registers the university’s achievements and worldwide campaigns the university and Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing has contributed to over the years. They then saw various exhibitions of students’ creations at the Branding Innovation Centre. The Branding Innovation Centre features existing products that have been given a new look, including branding, packaging and logos. Recognizing a re-branded product from Lesotho, the impressed Deputy Prime Minister said he believed the university’s students from Lesotho will be able to bring their home country’s products to an international branding level.

During an interview, Metsing said he believed the University has ‘made a change in the students’ lives,’ and the graduate students are the ones who will make a difference in their country. He said:“…what they have been exposed to here will definitely bring those best practices back to us in Lesotho, and we hope what they have learnt here is going to make a difference in Lesotho, and I think that is innovation, how it works, and we are grateful.”

Following the informative tour, the Deputy Prime Minister and his party met with the university founder and president, Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing at his office, where they discussed prospects of furthering the relationship between the university and his country.

During the meeting, they discussed further developing and creating the right human capital in Lesotho. They also talked about ways on enhancing global competitiveness of the country’s branding. The meeting was closed with a discussion of how the university could assist the country in promoting branding and packaging among the Small Medium Enterprises (SME’s) in Lesotho.
