On 25 June 2018, Limkokwing University welcomed former Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia, Tun Ahmad Sarji Bin Abdul Hamid, to the Cyberjaya campus.

He was part of a delegation from the Anderson School Old Boys Association (ASOBA) that dropped by to discuss possible collaboration in areas of education, branding and design.

The delegation was led by ASOBA President, Dato’ Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi, who is also Chairman of the National Sports Institute.

He was particularly impressed with the achievements that the University had achieved, after being taken on a tour of the Presidential library.

“Any student who is brought to the Presidential Library, will be guaranteed to be motivated and inspired as how I felt after the tour,” said Dato’ Seri Abdul Azim.

A History of Excellence

Established on 6 February 1909, Anderson School is a premier non-missionary school in Ipoh, that was named after the High Commissioner of the Malay States, Sir John Anderson.

For almost a hundred years, the school has produced many influential, prominent and highly-respected figures, including Tun Ahmad Sarji.

Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr. Limkokwing paid tribute to him, by calling him the most powerful Chief Secretary that Malaysia has ever had.

“I recall that he even made all of us in the private sector work hard,” said Tan Sri Limkokwing.

Tan Sri Limkokwing added that it was a good time for Anderson School to be part of Limkokwing University’s global journey, in designing a creative and innovative future ahead.

“We can make Anderson School a partner of the University,” Tan Sri Limkokwing proposed.

As part of the partnership, some 10 scholarships will be offered for ASOBA alumni and teachers to further their studies at Limkokwing, at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Collaboration in Sports

Apart from academic excellence, Tun Ahmad Sarji mentioned that Anderson School has long been well-known for its prowess in sports – particularly hockey.

“It will be a nice way to begin the partnership by making a video to promote sports which is somewhat lacking in our society today,” said Tan Sri Limkokwing in response.

The meeting concluded with plans to follow up with a separate discussion to work out the details of the collaboration between Limkokwing and ASOBA.

At the end of the meeting, Tun Ahmad Sarji applauded Tan Sri Limkokwing’s efforts in globalizing creative education, calling him an agent of change for the betterment of the country and the region.

“Tan Sri Limkokwing is a cut above the rest, a global player in the field of education. All Malaysians should be proud of him,” said Tun Ahmad Sarji.
