Malaysian High Commissioner visits Limkokwing London

26 March 2015

Malaysian High Commissioner in London, His Excellency Dato’ Ahmad Rasidi Hazizi visited Limkokwing University London to attend the final presentation by students on the Global Campus initiative.

The presentation was held on the 17th February at the University campus, where H. E. Dato’ Ahmad Rasidi Hazizi also presented the students with their Global Campus certificates.

Global Campus is an initiative that offers Limkokwing University students an opportunity to spend a month in London, taking part in industry workshops, sites visits, and lectures by industry leaders. This group of students arrived in London on the 23rd January, and after an activity filled month, were presenting their final projects. Beside their Global Campus certificates, the students also received trophies for the awards they won, plus an Awards for Training and Higher Education (ATHE) certificate; a UK-recognised qualification awarded by ATHE Chief Strategy Officer, Mr. Joshua Jones.

Following the awarding ceremony, H.E Dato’ Hazizi began his speech by congratulating Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing for opening a Malaysian university in the UK, saying the University gives international exposure to both Malaysian students and those from other countries. H.E. Dato’ Hazizi also said there were currently 16,000 Malaysian students studying at private and sponsored universities in the UK, spending 1 – 1.5 million ringgit each, and the presence of a Malaysian University in UK would make sure a sum of that revenue is invested back into a Malaysian company.

He applauded the Global Campus initiative, saying it provides a strong foundation for students’ future careers, as not only do students interact and learn from industry leaders, they are also encouraged to behave in a manner of a company when they do their group projects. He said the initiative also exposed students to new cultures and environments, which prepares them for a career anywhere in the world, thus improving their employment prospect after they graduate.

He continued by drawing attention to the very important relationship between Malaysia and London/UK, saying it needs to be maintained and strengthened, noting that Limkokwing University is doing very well in this endeavour, particularly in education.

His Excellency ended his address by congratulating the Global Campus students for completing the programme, saying it will prove highly beneficial to their future. He thanked Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing and the University for creating such a valuable initiative for Malaysian and international students to be able to learn from London industries.
