Students from Limkokwing University brought gifts to children from the PKYMS orphanage home in Kajang, Selangor, Malaysia.

The Pertubuhan Kebajikan Yesuvin Mahligai (YM) Selangor is a social welfare organisation registered with the Malaysian government welfare department. The organisation provides home and shelter to underprivileged individuals with dedicated premises for boys, girls, elderly men and elderly women.

Forty-two children from the shelter home received food, clothes and a donation worth RM500 from Limkokwing University’s Indian Cultural Club during a recent fundraising campaign.

“This event is part of our welfare programme which is conducted every semester by the Indian Cultural Club,” said Sri Ram Ganesan who is studying Bachelor of Communication in Digital Media, and is the President of the Indian Cultural Club.

Assisted by the Limkokwing University Student Services Department, 38 students from various faculties participated in the event held on 27 May 2017. The campaign is the third charity programme organised by the club this year which consisted of students from India and Malaysia.

This programme also serves as an educational opportunity for students to learn the importance of social responsibility, and humanitarian skills.

“During the event, we organised a motivational talk, book reading sessions and games for the children,” Sri Ram said. “Our members spent a lot of time with them, and some even became mentors for the children.”

“We hope that through our effort, we would help to encourage these children grow, and lead a productive and healthy life while pursuing their education in the future.”

The Indian Cultural Club is a student organisation that focuses on charitable activities, cultural events and providing assistance to students studying in Malaysia. Students can join the club by contacting the University’s Student Services Department to participate in the club’s activities.

Limkokwing University is a multicultural learning environment that encourages students to learn via exposure to various events. This enables students to develop social responsibility, cultural awareness and gain valuable experience.
