Limkokwing students from the Faculty of Creative Multimedia (FMC) visited the 9th Edition of Art Expo Malaysia Plus 2015 at the Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre (MECC), Kuala Lumpur on 11 September.

The Art Expo Malaysia (AEM) is the longest-running international art exhibition in Southeast Asia, and provides a culturally-explosive experience for art lovers. Founded in 2007 by an art philanthropist, Datuk Vincent Sim Tiak Choo, it’s vision is to bring together some of the finest artworks from all around the world to Malaysia.

At the exhibition, students were exposed to over 2000 pieces of artworks from nearly 70 established and reputable art galleries from 30 different countries, including paintings, sculptures, installation and photography.

The diverse pool of artists and their artworks provided students with an opportunity to get international exposure in a multicultural setting. They interviewed and engaged with some of the artists which allowed them to learn international industry expectations and standards for producing professional artworks.

The art expo also served as a reference for students to produce their own final projects. They formed into groups to work on an ‘Art Exposure Journal’ that will carry complete understanding of artworks showcased in the exhibition as well as required to choose a specific category of art and research on its idea of evolution. Such practical learning approach practised by the University will enable students to grow rich ideas and strong concepts which will result in much enhanced and professional works.

Limkokwing alumni, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Animation student, Sebastian Guzman from Venezuela was one of the artists and had his artworks displayed at the exhibition. Even as a student, Sebastian thrived as an artist in showcasing his artworks at exhibitions and events around Malaysia.

Limkokwing University promotes active involvement of students in industry events and exhibitions to expose them to real life industry practices and international standards. Students often get their works recognised in notable events as a result of the University’s industry-based learning approach.
