Nikon Malaysia has invited Limkokwing University’s Faculty of Design Innovation (FDI) to utilise an estimated 500 pieces of recycled Nikon cameras to produce human sculptures under the concept of ‘I am in Motion’. This project is undertaken by semester two Foundation in Design students over the duration of seven weeks.

The project aims to use recyclable things for the production as it helps to reduce the disposable plastic waste via a more creative method which serves both brands’ corporate social responsibility objectives.

The completed sculpture will be unveiled and displayed at the Nikon Centre at Berjaya Times Square together with the description of the project and the team members for a year, as well as Mid Valley Megamall’s concourse area from 30th October to 3rd November 2013.

Project Manager for Limkokwing’s Faculty of Design Innovation, Haris Hassan said, “This is our (FDI) first project with Nikon. We are looking forward to creating the sculpture with human figures which means every sculpture will have its own type of movement. However, every sculpture will be designed in such a way that the sculpture is able to hold the actual Nikon camera whereby it can be transported around Malaysia for Nikon promotional periods.”

“The students are very excited about this project because most of our students use Nikon cameras for their photography assignments. Nikon is officially our students’ camera of choice on campus. We are hoping that this achievement will be the greatest semester of this year and we looking forward to work with Nikon more in the future,” added Haris.

“As a foundation student in Limkokwing, I was quite surprised with this project with Nikon. That’s pretty special and my members in the group are excited as well. This project is a huge opportunity to prove ourselves and we are going to put our best into this project,” said Sheng Jie from China.

Kazakh student, Elina said, “For this semester, we have an amazing project with Nikon. We have six weeks to complete this project and we have already started to work on it. We are eight in a group and we have divided our tasks among ourselves. I hope this would be a good project and we hope to establish the best with Nikon.”

Senior Manager of Nikon Professional Services, Mahfooz Nabi Rasool said, “I initiated the collaboration between Nikon and Limkokwing on the sculpture project which is our second project actually. The first project was the Mega Pixels images shoot through KL Tower which is still running. We hope with this collaboration we can work together and bring forth both brands, Limkokwing and Nikon together on to a higher standard.”

“We are using all recyclable things for this project and this initiative from Limkokwing students is very creative. We are now working with two faculties and Nikon is open to work with other faculties in Limkokwing to expand further. Limkokwing working with industry partners is a very good initiative. The University is continuously working for the benefit of their students,” added Mahfooz.
