Sadha Mohamed: Advancing Maldives’ tourism landscape

9 June 2022

Sadha is currently working for a Private Company called, Sun Siyam Resorts, one of Maldives leading local brands in the tourism sector. Sun Siyam Resorts has grown to own and manage five luxury private island properties in the Maldives and a boutique beach retreat on the East Coast of Sri Lanka.

Sun Siyam Resorts is a local resort chain that has been in the industry since 1990. “Here, we operate as a family, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to our six island homes. My role involves managing the construction development work on extension and new projects of these resorts.”

When she’s not at work, Sadha volunteers at the Maldives Girl Guides Association (MGGA) – the largest voluntary NGO in Maldives. “This is my 10th year in this organisation. I have been the secretary of the Young Leaders branch back in 2005, adult leader from 2012 to 2020 and currently I’m the Public Relations Commissioner of MGGA,” she shares. “I contribute to encouraging and helping young girls to reach their fullest potential through the programmes we offer.”

As the Public Relations Commissioner of MGGA Sadha manages everything related to media and handles all the social media accounts of the association. “I draft and oversee the creation of media materials and content on social media; build relationships with journalists; and manage the response to crisis situations with the rest of our executive committee,” she adds.

Sadha graduated from the Professional Communications degree majoring in Media and Public Relations and pursued a Master’s in Projects Management. After completing her degree, she was an intern at Limkokwing University for one and a half years.

“I worked under the direct supervision of Dato’ Tiffanee Marie Lim at the Brand Creativity and Talent Development,” she says. “I was also the student ambassador for Maldives during my 3-year degree programme and this has influenced me a lot in both what I do now.”

Sadha is currently working on an extension project with one of the resorts in South Male’, an all adult island in Sun Siyam Olhuveli, Romance Island. “After this project we will be starting our Lagoon project with over 1,200 rooms which will then be the largest resort in the history of the Maldives,” she says.

Sadha represented her country at the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) – the largest voluntary movement dedicated to girls and young women in the world – with ten million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from 145 countries across the world.

“Every time I get to represent Maldives in international events has to be my favourite,” she says. “The most recent one was the 2021’s World conference with over 850 members from 122 member organisations from all around the world.”
