Garry Stuart Mcintosh is studying Bachelor of Science in Information and Communication Technology, he is also an English lecturer at Limkokwing University.

Coming to Malaysia

“I came to Malaysia about 13 years ago; I got married here. For a while I stayed in Melaka and found out about Limkokwing University through its campus there. I applied for a job and ended up working at the University’s Cyberjaya campus.”

Choosing Information technology

“In today’s society, information and IT are everywhere and influence all forms of human activity; nearly every company needs a team of savvy computer experts to keep its systems up and running.”
“With a career in IT, I can find work in just about every industry I’d like, such as financial services, entertainment, government, hospitality, healthcare, manufacturing, retail and more.”

Expertise and encouragement

For Garry, the caliber of the teaching staff is the highlight of his studies at Limkokwing University.
“There is a lot of work to do, I mean I lecture and I am a student as well but overall it’s a great experience because I learn a lot. The support I get from the staff is what makes me most enthusiastic about studying at Limkokwing.”

Enthralling Campus Environment

“What I like most about Limkokwing University is the campus environment, there are so many cultures represented here and one learns a lot. I think this sparks creativity which often results in an explosion of ideas on the projects we get involved in.”

“For my final semester project I designed a ‘Fire Detection System with the use of Arduino.’ The project involves developing fire detection device whereby a warning is transmitted to a mobile phone. This is an open-source electronic platform using hardware and software. The Arduino micro-controller board contains senses which receive input from its surrounding environment. The system will be able to notify house owners through their mobile of any suspected fires.”

Future plans

“I would like to pursue a career in computer networking, that’s what I have always been interested in. It’s a field where you constantly learn to provide technological solutions to a rapidly evolving world.”
