Limkokwing University has achieved a new milestone as the proud participant of the London Fashion Week 2017, one of the biggest fashion events in the world.

The invite will bring Limkokwing fashion students’ original designs across the continent to the fashion capital of London — showcasing their creativity shoulder to shoulder with some of the most-celebrated names in the fashion industry such as Julien MacDonald, Roksanda, Antonio Berardi, and iconic British brands Mulberry and Burberry.

Dato’ Tiffanee Marie Lim, Vice President of Brand Creativity and Talent Development, released the official announcement during its Chinese New Year celebration at the Limkokwing Fashion Club store in Publika, Kuala Lumpur.

According to her, Limkokwing University is the only foreign university invited to participate in the fashion week, an achievement unmatched by any other fashion school.

“My team and I are incredibly excited for the London Fashion Week. We are walking on one of the biggest runways in the world. Not many students or even designers get this opportunity,” she added.

In preparation for the show, the team has been spending endless days and nights together to create a collection inspired by Asian and African cultural elements. Representatives from the team have been travelling around the world to source for special fabrics and materials.

Over the past decade, Limkokwing University continues to be the melting pot of culture and diversity. Home to students from over 150 countries, its global presence spans across Asia, Africa and Europe — which is the core concept of the designs to be unveiled in London.

Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Fashion & Retailing student Adilya Botabayeva still can’t believe it’s happening.

“We are working hard to showcase in Europe the very best of Asia and Africa. A cross-continent mission, you might say,” she expressed.

In previous years, students from the fashion faculty have also featured their collections at various fashion events in Botswana, Cambodia, China, Jakarta, Japan, Italy and Malaysia and United Kingdom.

Fashion Scout, UK’s largest independent showcase for emerging and established design talent during the London Fashion Week, is eager to see what Limkokwing students will be bringing to the table.

“The whole concept of Fashion Scout is to enable designers with a flare a spot in the centre of the madness during London Fashion Week,” said Fashion Scout’s Operations Manager Gina Hewitt.

“It is our pleasure to invite such a prestigious design university to our show.”

The London Fashion Week 2017 will be held on 17 to 21 February.
