To mark the end of Limkokwing University’s three-month Generasi Global programme, the second cohort of FELDA students who arrived in London in early May were presented with certificates and the best Global Transformation Projects were awarded a special recognition.

Among the guests of honour at the ceremony was the founder and CEO of Fluency.io, Ms Sinead Mac Manus. Fluency.io is a social venture and online education platform giving young people, in-demand digital skills, practical experience and networks so that they can compete for jobs in the growing digital industry. Present also was Mr. Arun Chaudhary, Nepal’s first self-made billionaire, and the managing director of Chaudhary Group, which has over 40 companies under its umbrella and an investment outlay of over $1 billion. Last but not least, Ms. Kasia Molga, the revolutionary visual artist and interaction designer whose practice is concerned with our relationship with the planet. In her work, she reaches out to technologies such as social media, data visualization, geo-locative technologies and augmented reality to create participatory interactive pieces through which she invites spectators to have a playful dialogue with.

The 130 FELDA students received their certificate and three students speakers gave accounts of their experiences and the lessons they had learned. They spoke about the honour of being part of those awarded the privilege of visiting the London campus and then finally expressed their gratitude to Tan Sri Limkokwing, FELDA and the Prime Minister for the inauguration of the scheme and his support during their stay.

Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering with Multimedia student Dineshram A/L Dorasamy said, “It was an absolute privilege to be chosen to be part of this special group, not only did I get to see London, I had the best time with the rest of my batch that I will remember forever! I feel that seeing how international business operates, and the advanced software they use in London really expanded what I think technology can do in everyday lives. I feel that I am ready to contribute to building a technologically advanced society and be a pioneer in Malaysia with what I have learned in London.”

Nurfaridah Binti Abdulla, a Bachelor of Arts Professional Design in Visual Communication student said, “London has been an absolute precious experience for me, as a Visual Communication student, I could not have hoped for a better choice of exposure anywhere in the world! I could only wish that everyone was given this special opportunity that I got that really opened up my eyes and my perspective, I really feel that there’s an international touch in the way I approach my assignments and my future work.”

After a few performances, academic leader, Jake Morton together with the academic team presented the awards to the best Global Transformation Projects. First place went to Luscinix for reinventing the conventional shipping containers into innovative and creative exhibition space. Second place went to Momentum for providing identification and contact details immediately through RFID and third place went to Lucky-eight. The awards recognised the projects for their design based on future needs, human-centred and sustainable products. These three teams all received medallions engraved with their names hung on tricolour ‘British insignia’ ribbons.

Other teams received recognition for their efforts. The award for practicality went to Navy; innovative award went to Enomagine; futuristic to Warison; effective to Pleu; dynamic to Genesis; ecological to Tera, and creative to Ace Inc. These ‘companies’ teams received gold starburst trophies mounted on black mineral-stone miniature plinths.

The unique opportunity afforded by the Generasi Global programme provides students with a look into the UK’s diverse industry environment and the business cultures of the world’s most successful companies like Apple Inc. The programme also provides students with a greater understanding of exploiting emerging technology, and how these can be exported back to Malaysia and establishing themselves as industrial leaders. The programme is about empowering the youth of Malaysia.
