Limkokwing University recently awarded His Majesty King Mswati III of the Kingdom of Swaziland an Honorary Doctorate of Human Capital Development.
The doctorate was in tribute to His Majesty’s transformational leadership aimed at lifting the Kingdom of Swaziland to new heights of economic competitiveness through the empowerment of its youths.
The ceremony was held at Limkokwing University’s Cyberjaya campus, with an attendance of ambassadors, high commissioners, and representatives from around the world.
The King was accompanied by his wife, Queen LaMbikiza, and a royal entourage. He was welcomed with lively performances and applause from Limkokwing staff and students, who are from over one hundred and sixty countries all over the world, some of them wearing their traditional attire.
Limkokwing University opened a campus in Swaziland in 2010, following two other campuses on African soils, Botswana and Lesotho, investing new technology and innovation that is necessary for the development of Africa. More campuses are planned for other African nations like Kenya and Tanzania soon.
“Limkokwing University is providing the kind of degrees that empowers Swazi youth, and I strongly believe the future of Swaziland has effectively been transformed,” said the King.
He went on to declare Limkokwing University “Swaziland’s University of Transformation,” and said the University was “contributing to building global peace by helping youth from across the world develop friendship, thus cultural understanding and appreciation.”
He also expressed gratitude on behalf on his people and the countries participating in the smart partnership dialogue, in regards to the full scholarships Limkokwing University is offering students from participating countries.
Limkokwing is also offering 30 post graduate scholarships in Malaysia for Swazi students, and many other scholarships to both local and international students.
“Dr Lim Kok Wing has demonstrated deep love, not only for the people of Malaysia, but for the African continent at large. He has realized that we need help in exposing our people to new technologies,” he said.
While delivering his speech, the King announced that he had allocated land for Limkokwing University to open permanent premises in Swaziland. He also thanked the University for hosting his daughter, Princess Sikhanyiso, who has been working with the University for the past few months as a content developer.
Also at the ceremony, Queen LaMbikiza accepted the honour to be Honorary Patron of the Heal the World Foundation’s Swaziland chapter. Heal the World Foundation is an initiative by Limkokwing University that develops students through philanthropy and other activities aimed at instilling compassion, generosity, altruism and intercultural understanding.
The Limkokwing University choir performed a tribute song dedicated to His Majesty King Mswati III, called ‘Your Majesty’, composed and produced by Limkokwing University. The King was then presented with the first copy of the music video to the song.
The ceremony was concluded with playing a music video tribute to the King, composed and delivered by princess Sikhanyiso, called ‘Hail your Majesty’.
