It wasn’t a normal day for the students at Limkokwing University Cyberjaya when they discovered several Proton cars parked in the middle of the campus plaza. An industry visit with a twist, our national car manufacturer definitely made a statement with the additional presence of two Lotus supercars following the pack as they wanted the students of the university to experience the cars for themselves.

Proton also brought two of their staff to address the students from the Faculty of Business Management and Globalization regarding the company’s capability as Malaysia’s national car manufacturer. Ms. Linda Law, Senior Manager of Marketing and Branding for Proton Edar was accompanied by Mr. Enoch Abraham, an Engineer from Proton’s Powertrain division.

First to address the students was Ms. Linda where she explained to the students regarding Proton’s commitment to design and explained that they produce cars that are value driven and best in their respective classes in safety and reliability. She also added that the company is committed to the community it does business in as to ensure the quality of the products and services they offer. Ms. Linda later began her talk on ‘What business you want to be in and how do you get there?’ to the business students in the audience.

Mr. Enoch Abraham later explained to the audience about the benefits of the various technological advancements that Proton has applied over the years as a car manufacturer. He talked about the application of ABS/ESC as well as how the new soft turbo works in a few available Proton models. Many students took the chance to ask these industry experts for insights, tips and advice.

While the industry talk was happening, Proton took the opportunity to showcase their cars to the students of the university. Right in the middle of the campus plaza, various Proton cars were on display including the new Proton Suprima S model and the Proton Preve released last year. Lotus Cars, another subsidiary of the DRB-Hicom group also took the opportunity to display the Lotus Exige and their more recent model, the Lotus Evora. Many students were excited by the chance to check out the cars that were on display, especially the two luxurious supercars.

Proton is a wholly owned subsidiary of DRB-HICOM that was established in 1983 as a part of the national industrialization plan. The national car company pioneered and drove Malaysia’s automobile into new lengths in engineering, development, research and manufacturing with operations in UK, Middle East, East Asia and Australasia to produce cars that are suited to the range of consumer’s demands. Lotus Cars, the renowned British car manufacturing company was acquired by Proton in 1996 and is now a subsidiary of DRB HICOM.

This industry visit gave the students of the university a chance to get up close with the national car manufacturer in a truly different experience. Students from the Faculty of Business Management and Globalization gained valuable industry insights from this visit.
