Limkokwing students from across faculties got an opportunity to learn major trends that would shape up the future of finances with Blockchain Technology Malaysia Consultant, Adil Haris.

During the talk on 26 April 2018 at Limkokwing’s flagship campus in Cyberjaya, Haris said that the company’s specialty not only focuses on Blockchain but also on web development, artificial intelligence, consulting and the internet of things.

He then elaborated on what Blockchain Technology is, how it works and its importance to society.

“I usually go on google trends search history to see the growth of Blockchain. Blockchain has grown overtime; you can see a significant increase from April 2017 to March 2018.”

Comparing blockchain to bitcoin, Haris acknowledged that most people who think they know blockchain are usually talking about bitcoin. “Last year Bitcoin was the second most searched item on Google last year.”

Giving an overall scenario of blockchain, Haris mentioned that Malaysia is one of the countries where there is a rapid involvement of blockchain.

“The Government, private companies and many other parties are actively trying to get into this space. Currently at Blockchain Technology Malaysia 60 to 70 percent of our clients are from abroad, however we have a couple of projects in the pipeline within Malaysia.”

How it works

In further explanation of how blockchain works Haris gave students real life examples for a better understanding.

“There are four essential elements that make up blockchain namely cryptography, peer to peer network, consensus algorithms and contracts enforced by code.”

For students who want to explore blockchain technology, Haris mentioned that the sooner they learn about it the better because it is a vibrant and upcoming field.

“Students need to possess an understanding of how blockchain works and good business knowledge of the industry where they are coming from.”

“If you want to pursue your career as someone who works in blockchain for business, get to know more about your field and how you can disintermediate people and networks within your industry. Or if you are a coder and want to learn blockchain start exploring bitcoin codes, iterium codes, start developing smart contracts and know how all this works, this is probably the easiest way a person from a tech or business can get into this space.”

In closing Adil Haris applauded Limkokwing University for its creative way of teaching, “I think the practice Limkokwing has is amazing it has a good cultural and global community set up where students can talk about their experience from multiple perspectives.”
